Momentous!

Man, one momentous day after another! But this one takes the cake!

So, Jena and I cleaned the church this morning and then drove over to Wailea to run the path- today is the beginning of our running regimate! (or is it regime?) So, we run and run and run and run...when on the way back, passing the Grand Wailea (the most beautiful hotel in the whole world), Jena hears "paparazzi in the lobby"- knowing how she loves celebrities and her People magazine, I ask her if she wants to go check it out- and of course we do! We walk up to the lobby (actually we got there by elevator) and see all this filming attire, along with THE camera- and then notice the sign says "Do not go past this point. Filming in process" Jena asks the guard if they are filming the big movie (there's one coming out with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston about a trip they take to Maui) and he says yes. Then he tells us if we go to the other side, we can see better! haha He was local- of course he gave us the bro deal ;)
Jena and I walk over quickly with such excitement. We hear "Action!" and then all of a sudden we see Adam and Jennifer walk into the lobby with their flower leis on, and their supposedly 3 children. We notice all the extras walking in the background, of course with their hawaiian attire. Ah! So fun! Jena couldn't believe it was Jennifer Aniston until we saw her do her "Jenniferisms" and we knew! We overheard the guard talking with the guests, and then realized everyone was going to take a lunch break. Well, that was fun! So we start to walk to the elevator, when a stampede of extras start going there as well- in haste, we followed a couple down the stairs to avoid the mob. They got off on level 3, so we kept going down until we got to the bottom floor to get back to our running. We open the door, and unbeknownst to me Jena is standing there wide-eyesd, when a man in a blue shirt comes walking up to us and says "Hello"- it was Adam Sandler! Yes, let's take a deep breathe and read that line again- Adam Sandler said hello to us! And he sounded just like he does in movies- I was so taken back I simply said "Oh! Hello!" We watched him walk down the hall, and then turning to go out the security man gave us the stink eye so I said "Oh yes, we're leaving now! Just leaving..."

What fun! Jena is now motivated to go running every morning! haha They're here in Maui filming for 7-8 weeks. (So madre and papa- and J- you will all be here when they are!) It was just fun- Jena and I celebrated by getting ourselves some "bubbly" as she calls it at Safeway! haha- our new fave: Sparkling Water beverage- mine even has calcium in it! (I'm not sure how though...)

Oh yes, just another day in paradise ;)

On a serious note though, Curt Franks, our director of finances at church, just found out that he has a brain tumor- or two. He's in Oahu right now and will have surgery tomorrow (Tuesday) at 1pm- please be praying for him and his family, esp. his wife Patty. Curt is doing okay, but I think Patty is pretty shaken. today

Today was wonderful- restful and homey.

I woke up, drank my lemon-medicated tea, which made my throat feel like a soft pillow!- (i'm trying to be poetic...still need work!), had breakfast at Starbuck's and met the highschool girls for hula. We're learning a hula dance to "City on our Knees" for our auction on May 16th- it was so fun! I love those girls with my whole heart! I am so thankful for the group of kids the Lord has chosen to go on our missions trip- they're studs! I just love spending time with them.

Then I went shopping with Christy- I loved driving all the way to town (haha, it seems so far! 20 min...this isn't the mainland!) and just talking with her. I'm so thankful for Christy. I love her openess, excitement for life and her discerment and wisdom. Then I worked on a little project and went to Jamie's to see her and Rio get ready for Senior Luau tonight! whoot whoot! Jamie is just like her mom! I love it- and I loved being there for their photos...driving away I thought "now this feels like home" I guess just being in a home with a family, taking the day slower- not really having to be anywhere. It was wonderful- I am learning to just be, and not necessarily do, this week.
Well, having the car today and not having anything to do, I drove to Wailea and shopped some more (I know! more shopping!). I took Kihei road back to watch the ocean- ah! I still can't believe I live right on the ocean- grocery stored-it up, and got Jamba for dinner.
Now, I have to admit, I have a problem! I am officially addicted to Jamba Juice- I've had like 6 in the past two weeks! So I am making a vow right to not have one at least until the auction...actually, until May 10th...that's more realistic! But I did get the acai primo bowl- ah! acai smoothy, granola, bananas, blueberries, coconut, and honey- truly, nothing is better! Do you ever love a food so much that you sigh after every bite!? haha...well yes, that's me and the acai...it taste like Maui in my mouth!

I'm thankful for the restful, slow day today, especially after a week of being sick and feeling really out of it- and for the girls God has blessed in my life-

OH! I didn't tell you my week- well it went super fast, Risa left for Brazil, and I got surgery! (I kind of like saying that because I've never had surgery before- well i did get my wisdom teeth out...but somewhere other than my mouth). I had to get a mole and cyst removed on my back- Dr. Baker from South Carolina (now say that with a southern accent!) did the procedure. At first the nurse brought me into the surgery room- and I saw a big hawaiian man lying down with his girlfriend laying on top of his chest, comforting him as he wimpered...and I saw a bloody foot...oh buddy! I almost passed out right there! Thankfully the nurse led me back to the other room- and to be honest, the surgery was fascinating to me. Dr. Baker numbed both areas so I didn't feel anything. The cyst I had had forever and I guess what happens is that your pores can get clogged up- but it still produces the oil- so he just took it out (it was like a big wax ball) and stitched me up! Sorry, that's probably so gross! The whole time I thought of Risa and how she would have loved to have been there-she loves medical things! (Her papa's a doctor)

Also, our toilet still isn't fixed! Oh buddy!

miss fix it...or not!

i love the little things that happen in life that you just have to laugh at!
A couple of days ago, Risa and I's toilet stopped working! It just wouldn't flush no matter how long you held down that handle. On Saturday we told Jena- and mentioned how we're using her bathroom :)- and she said, "well, did you try opening the top and pulling the string?" Risa and I looked at each other and laughed and then went into the bathroom to try and see if that worked- and it did! But not permanently, so we played with it a bit more (actually risa did and i just watched and encouraged!) when the whole string broke off and fell into the abiss of water! Ah well...all we have to do is call the main office and they'll fix it, it's just a matter of calling! But in the meantime, we are toiletless...
then, last night as we were on our slushi quest 2010 for pina colada ones (which we found right away! yum!) we were talking about flat tires and I mentioned that that's my worst nightmare and that I've never had one...I wouldn't even know what to do if it happened! Well, sure enough as I hopped in the van this morning to make my 8:30 am apt. I noticed that the car was running terribly and there was a terrible sound. However, I just blasted the music because our vans usually run poorly...haha, but then i realized that no, something really was wrong. I thought it might be the axil again (we had to take it in last week- it was making the worst noise!) so I just kept driving. When I reached the highway, I thought to myself "Well, I'll just go fast to see if the noise stops" But the van could hardly make 30mphs! It was bad sauce. I was just praying to make it to church...i knew it wasn't going to make it though. Finally, a guy pulls up besides me (As everyone else is passing me) and tells me to pull over- and it was then that I realized I had a flat tire! YEP- A FLAT TIRE! haha Now, this summer I remember asking my dad what to do if I ever got a flat tire and his exact words were "Oh honey, just use your womanly wiles and you'll be good- and then call me!" haha oh papa- well, i'm looking at this flat tire, thinking of my meeting, and that the church really isn't that far off- and thinking of how Jena told me when she got a flat tire last year and drove her car all the way across the I-90 bridge and to SPU...so I thought "surely I can make it to the church- if Jena can do it, I can!" SO I hopped back into the van and drove...slowly- finally, as I was turning to get on the street of the church, I realized there's no way I can go any further. So I pulled over, and walked to church- making it just in time! I called the faithful Jake Spence, and he told me he'd fix it. Praise the Lord! But as I walked back out to the van to put the key in the car, Brandon pulled up and asked what happened- then as I was telling him the story, we both looked at the tire...it was in threads! I mean- THREADS- Not just a little blown out of deflated- but you could see the strings holding it together! OH BUDDY!
Praise the Lord Jake got it fixed- and I learned a lesson! When having a flat tire, don't proceed to drive on it!

On a serious note though, it was a neat lesson because Craig had just talked about Matt. 6 yesterday at church about not worrying- but trusting in God, He is our heavenly Papa, Sovereign- and when we trust in Him we have peace and it glorifies Him. He said we can trust in Him because He is our Father- he takes care of us. I wasn't worried at all with the flat tire this morning because I knew I could call Jake and he would take care of me and fix it. And then when Brandon came up- he was so sweet to see what happened and offered to help. Even last night, both Tylan and Jeremiah offered to fix our toilet- or told us what to do-
1. I love that men love to fix things- and problem solve
2. I realized I am not a fix it person! I just let it happen...oh dear!
3. Just as those men helped me- so my Papa helps me and takes care of me. I am so thankful that I can rely on Him fully and rest because He is in control!

Pictures are coming soon! Sorry, I've just been lazy to upload! But get ready for some Hana and Easter photos:) and my adorable high school girls!
Today was wonderful- so restful! I helped Jena clean the children's building with my weekly vacuuming (which has been great- I get to listen to sermons as I work out my arms! haha no but really, if you want strong arms- don't go to the gym, just vacuum for 2 hours! shoots!) I listened to John Piper's sermon from the Resolved Conference in 2008 on hell- it was so good! But guess what I realized today!? When Jesus died on the cross, He not only bore the wrath of God for our sins- our sins yesterday, today and tomorrow- but for eternity! I never realized that before- and He did so for millions upon millions upon millions of people- the cross itself is excruciating, but Jesus bearing the wrath of God for eternity is what makes it so incredible.

After vacuuming, I ran the path at Wailea, talked with Jeff- HE'S COMING TO MAUI IN MAY!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING- and read more of "Shadow of the Almighty". Then I took a glorious nap and went on a coffee date with Michelle- i love her! I didn't even realize how much time had passed, I was enjoying talking with her so much. Then we had our girl's bible study tonight- we're going through "How do you walk the walk you talk?" by Kay Arthur- it's on Ephesians- which I love!

Oh dear! I just realized I need to start and finish our intern evaluation! ah! Night!

Sunshine and Summer!

It really is starting to feel like summer here (I know, you think it's always summer in Maui! but no really- the weather is changing- it SMELLS like summer!!!) and I'm loving it! I'm wearing a yellow tank top today to celebrate! haha

This morning I baked two apple pies for tomorrow's easter dinner at the smiths! Jena and I are going to go to Costco to get all of the blueberry pancake goods for the furnace's lunch fundraiser tomorrow- and then we get to spend the afternoon with the smith children!!! cuteness here we come! Then later we have a date with sweet Rio to watch "the Last Song"- whoot whoot!

5 LOVELY WEEKS until my parents come! I can't wait- but until then the craziness is about to start with getting ready for the auction- and Hume Lake and LA! EEEEEE!!!! I LOVE SUMMER! I can't wait for the kids to be out of school, to have long days at the beach, restful time with Jesus, sweet tea, bonfires, and tons of sleepovers!!!

I can't wait for tomorrow too- EASTER! My favorite day of the year! I love that we can celebrate Jesus' resurrection- in Him is life! He is victorious, glorious, majestic, and our SAVIOR- MIGHTY GOD, WORTHY OF ALL PRAISE, FAITHFUL, OBEDIENT, HUMBLE- through Him is life and life abundant. He is the way, the truth and the life-
"Papa, You are Mighty and You are Savior. Thank you for defeating death and sin and for calling me to be Your daughter. I couldn't live without You, nor would I want to- You are my King, my Savior, my Redeemer, my Father, and the Lover of my soul. Holy, Holy, Holy are You Lord Almighty!"

Happy Easter!
